Is the law library open to the public?
Yes. The library is open to the public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday - Friday. We serve the needs of Johnson County’s legal community and all residents of the county.

The library is located in the Johnson County Courthouse at the corner of Sante Fe and Kansas Avenue in downtown Olathe. We are approximately 1 1/2 miles west of the Santa Fe Exit on I-35.
Will someone help me get started with my legal research?
Yes. Tell us what the legal issue or question is that you want to research and our staff will show you the research materials we have on that subject. We do not have staff to do legal research for you.
Can I obtain legal forms from the law library?
Yes. We have 10th District Court approved form packets with instructions for:
We also can show you the legal form books and handbooks in our collection that contain thousands of sample legal forms. However these forms are not locally approved fill in the blank forms and have no instructions.
Can the law library staff answer my legal questions?
No. We are not attorneys so we can’t give you legal advice, tell you what form is needed,
what word to use in a form, interpret the law or interpret a legal document.

You are screened for the legal matter involved and your willingness and ability to pay a lawyer an appropriate fee for their services. You are then directly connected to an attorney if an appropriate attorney is available.

How much do photocopies and computer prints cost?
$0.25 per page. We accept cash, check or credit card.
Does the law library have word processing?
Yes. The library has one (1) computer terminal for word processing with Word and WordPerfect. Prints are $0.25 each. The Clerk of the District Court also has a typewriter for public use.
Does the law library have online legal research services?
Yes. The library has the Lexis legal research service. There is no fee to use this service. Prints are $0.25 per page.
Can law library materials be checked out?
Only registered attorneys may checkout materials.
Does the law library have Internet access?
Yes. The library has five (5) computer terminals that are equipped for Internet access and are available for use by all patrons. Access to most email account services and some types of web sites are blocked. Prints are $0.25 for each.
Does the library have tax forms?
We only have reproducible tax forms. The library does not have tax booklets or forms to handout. Tax forms and booklets are available at most public libraries. The IRS website includes tax information, forms, and publications: www.irs.gov
